Monrovia, Liberia – The motion for the draft recast budget scrutiny has been suspended, as announced by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa. This decision will be in effect until the Special Investigative Committee, which is chaired by Representative Robert Wongbe, submits its report.

Speaker Koffa underscored the House’s dedication to fostering transparency and accountability within Liberia’s governance system during his address on Thursday, August 29, during the first day of the extraordinary session.

The Speaker of the House, as per a legislative release, reassured the public that the House is committed to maintaining transparency and accountability to the Liberian people.

“The budget scrutiny is a critical process, and it is our duty to guarantee that it is conducted with the utmost integrity and transparency. We will refrain from conducting any budgetary examination until the Special Investigative Committee of Wongbe has concluded its inquiry and submitted its conclusions.”

The extraordinary session, which commenced on Thursday, August 29, 2024, will continue until September 19, 2024.

House Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa has commended his colleagues for their dedication to returning to work under difficult circumstances, including laboring without pay, in order to advance the interests of the Republic of Liberia.

โ€œMy fellow Representatives’ dedication in returning to work without compensation is a testament to their dedication to the well-being of our nation. This is a collaborative endeavor to guarantee that we fulfill our responsibilities in the best interest of Liberia.”
