Monrovia, Liberia – The Capitol grounds will host this year’s yearly message, according to the 55th Legislature. The “arson attack” on the William R. Tolbert Joint Chamber, the previous location of the annual speech, on December 18 prompted the decision to hold the ceremony on the capitol’s grounds.

Article 58 of the 1986 Liberian Constitution, which reads as follows: “The President shall, on the fourth working Monday in January of each year, present the administration’s legislative programs for the ensuing session, and shall once a year report to the Legislature on the state of the Republic.” This is in accordance with the State of Nation Address. The report will include expenditures as part of its presentation of the Republic’s economic situation.

According to an announcement from both Houses of the Legislature, due to increased security measures, State Securities will seriously restrict entry to the Capitol Building grounds beforeย and during the annual message. The joint announcement also cautioned people without formal invitations or access credentials, including legislative personnel, to avoid the Capitol grounds on the day of the SONA.

The announcement also promised the public that the President’s yearly address will be broadcast live on multiple media channels, radios, TV, and social media, allowing residents to view and listen to it from home or at work.

The press release also promised the public that the President’s yearly speech will be broadcast live on multiple media channels, namely radios, TV, and social media, allowing residents to watch and listen to it from home or at work.ย The joint Legislative statement further emphasized that only media organizations that have been officially approved and awarded access cards would be permitted to cover the impending national event.

The Legislature pledge that itย ย remains dedicated and fully prepared to host President Joseph N. Boakai Sr. on Monday, January 27th, for the sole purpose of delivering his second annual address.
