Monrovia, Liberia โ The Public Accounts & Expenditure Committee (PAC) has been directed by the House of Representatives Plenary to coordinate with the General Auditing Commission (GAC) in order to carry out a system audit of the House of Representatives.
On Thursday, February 27, 2025, during the 12th Day Sitting of the First Quarter of the 2nd Session, the decision was made in response to a message from Hon. Nyan Flomo, the Representative for Nimba County Electoral District #2.
Citing Chapter 2, Article 5(c) of the 1986 Liberian Constitution, which requires the Republic to eradicate power abuses, misappropriation of public funds, nepotism, and corruption, Hon. Flomo underlined in his communication the constitutional obligation of the Legislature to promote accountability and transparency.
House Rule 44.1, which requires lawmakers to set an example in the fight against corruption, was another point he made. In 2024, effort to conduct an audit of the House of Representatives by the General Auditing Commission (GAC) was abruptly halted without explanation.
Any additional delay in starting the audit might give the impression that the House is not prepared to take the lead in the fight against corruption, Hon. Flomo said. The 55th Legislature underlines its dedication to goodย governance, fiscal responsibility, and institutional integrity in accordance with national and international best practices by adopting this bold action.
