Monrovia, Liberia โ€“ The Capitol grounds will host this yearโ€™s yearly message, according to the 55th Legislature. The โ€œarson attackโ€ on the William R. Tolbert Joint Chamber, the previous location of the annual speech, on December 18 prompted the decision to hold the ceremony on the capitolโ€™s grounds.

Article 58 of the 1986 Liberian Constitution, which reads as follows: โ€œThe President shall, on the fourth working Monday in January of each year, present the administrationโ€™s legislative programs for the ensuing session, and shall once a year report to the Legislature on the state of the Republic.โ€ This is in accordance with the State of Nation Address. The report will include expenditures as part of its presentation of the Republicโ€™s economic situation.

According to an announcement from both Houses of the Legislature, due to increased security measures, State Securities will seriously restrict entry to the Capitol Building grounds beforeย and during the annual message. The joint announcement also cautioned people without formal invitations or access credentials, including legislative personnel, to avoid the Capitol grounds on the day of the SONA.
