Foreign Minister Kemayah, represent President Weah at ECOWAS Ordinary Session

Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari has called on African leaders to continue to work together in a realistic way in order to find a solution to the numerous challenges facing the sub-region, especially the threat to democracy.

He stated that West Africa continues to suffer from various major challenges including political, security, environmental and socioeconomic concerns linked to the coronavirus pandemic.

In his welcome remarks, President Muhammadu Buhari noted that the region is tormented by numerous challenges especially the situation in Mali and Guinea where the military seized power.

He added that the gathering of African leaders in Abuja is a clear demonstration of their commitment to the effective integration of the sub-region.

Liberia Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr. represented President George Manneh Weah, at the 60th ECOWAS Ordinary Session of Authority of Heads of State and Government on Sunday, December 12, 2021, held in Abuja, Nigeria.

Also in attendance were the President of Ghana and Chair of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of state and Governments, Nana Akufo-Addo; the former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan; Special Representatives of the United Nations; President of Togo, Faure Gnassingbe and the President of Niger Republic, Mohamed Bazoum.

Others are the Presidents of The Gambia, Adama Barrow; Cote D’ Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara; Senegal, Macky Sall; Guinea Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló; Sierra Leone, Julius Bio as well as the President of Cape Verde, Jose Maria Neves.

At the 60th ordinary session  Authority of Heads of States,  ECOWAS leaders imposed travel bans on members and families of junta military leaders and government in Guinea.

 The summit also adopted ECOWAS vision 2050 of a new community fully integrated into a peaceful, prosperous region with strong institutions that respect fundamental freedoms and work for inclusive and sustainable development.
