President George Weah has ordered the investigation of the Diplomatic passport issued to Sheik Bassirou Kante. The Liberian Leader has directed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dee-Maxwell Kemayah, to immediately investigate the circumstances leading to the issuance of Liberia’s Diplomatic passport to Sheik Bassirou Kante, who was recently arrested in the U.S.
In his directive, Mr. Weah ordered that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately stop the issuance of diplomatic passports to anyone unless authorized by him.
President Weah has also ordered Minister Kemeyah to submit a full report detailing a review of how Liberian diplomatic passports are issued. Mr. Weah ordered that the report be submitted within one week of the date of his directive, May 10, 2022.
A U.S Agents report triggered the order, followed by Mr. Kante’s arrest for money laundering. The report also stated Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor’s close and personal relationship with Mr. Kante when his email was searched.
It can be recalled early this year Mr. Kante visited Liberia and carried out several humanitarian works including, bearing the cost of bringing Nigerian stars P-Square to perform at the Bicentennial Celebrations aboard a private plane. He paid the twin superstars $100,000 as part of his Bicentennial Celebration gift to the government.
