Petty Traders at the Paynesville Central Market have raised serious concerns over the reported shortage of five and ten Liberian dollar banknotes on the Liberian market.
Recently, the government of Liberia through the Central Bank infused five hundred and one hundred Liberian dollar banknotes into the market.
Petite Traders speaking through their Operations Superintendent Baindu Lahun Sayndee and table director Mitta Fayiah Deno on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, indicated that the shortage of the banknotes is seriously impeding their normal business activities.
Madam Sandee and Madam Deno also called on the Weah government to address the challenges regarding the change process. According to them, the issue is causing them serious embarrassment in getting change for customers whenever they are given five hundred and one hundred banknotes.
They mentioned that customers sometimes refused to buy their goods once the right change is not provided; something they said should be speedily addressed to avoid further embarrassment.
The marketers however said the buying rate for the past three months has dropped, adding that, they have observed that working people are no longer getting their salaries on time.
