President George Manneh Weah has allowed the special committee investigating the passport saga an extra two weeks to complete its work, with the official release of the report set for June 6, 2022.
According to Foreign Minister Maxwell Kemayah, a diplomatic note has been issued to the US government demanding a copy of the passport. He highlighted that the process is now looking at the entire passport and visa bureau, including everything conceivable, as part of his reform effort.
On May 19, 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs informed the public that the five-member committee is now working very hard to assist with the investigation process, including the Ministry of Justice and the National Security Agency, both of which, he stated, are assisting with technical support.
It is recorded President George Weah recently asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to investigate within a week the issuing of Liberia’s diplomatic passport to Sheik Bassirou Kante. During an FBI search, Kante, a non-government official, was discovered with Liberian diplomatic passports.
