Liberia President, George Manneh Weah has been awarded in Monaco for his role in ensuring peace and the promotion of sports. The Liberia Leader was yesterday, November 30, 2022, awarded at the Peace and Sport Awards forum in Monaco for his role play in peace and sports.
The 15th edition of the Peace and Sports Forum is being held under the patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and runs from November 30 2022 through December 1, 2022.
On Wednesday, November 30, 2022, Mr. Weah delivered the Keynote Address of the 13th Edition of the International Peace and Sports Forum in Monaco. The soccer icon stressed the importance of peace and Sports in unifying the world as well as lauding the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for supporting Liberia presently and during Liberia’s civil war.
Disrupted by the resurgence of international conflicts, the 2022 Forum brought together experts from all over the world under the theme “Sports is an answer for Peace”.
President Weah was unanimously selected as the keynote speaker, according to the organizers, because of his dedication to supporting the critical role of sports at the international level and in Africa as a means of bringing peoples and nations together.
In a letter to the Liberian President, the event’s organizers said: “As a football legend and Head of State, your vision to bring unity, reconciliation, and prosperity to Liberia in a balanced and inclusive manner is even more powerful and set an example for not only other political leaders but also top-level athletes in the world. According to the event’s organizers, “your participation in this one-of-a-kind, impartial event towards the end of the year would effectively assist in bringing this year’s Liberian Bi-centennial celebration to a successful conclusion.”
