Debah Criticizes Keita Appointment as Senior National Team Coach

MONROVIA – Liberia’s former soccer star James Salinsa Debbah, has expressed that Ansu Keita’s appointment as head coach of the senior national football team is doomed to failure and a scandal of epic proportions. Asserting that this is football and not politics, Mr. Debbah said, the nomination of coach Keita was not supported by President George Weah because of discussions they both had about appointing a technical and experienced coach who had the necessary credentials to oversee the senior team.

Coach Keita, in his opinion, is a youth developing coach who has never been evaluated at the senior national team level, and as a result, no person who has played football at the top level will support Keita’s nomination.

According to the former PSG forward, three members of the vetting committee Senator Boy Charles Sewgbe, Frank Jericho Nagbe, and Anthony Tokpa refused to support Keita’s appointment because they were aware that it was a farce and a treachery that had previously been planned.

Debbah also took issue with the selection of Madam Roseline Konneh, a football administrator, for the position of coach-vetting committee member since, in his opinion, she does not comprehend the nuances and complexity of the coaching industry.

On Monday, January 23, 2023, the former PSG, Galatasary and Liberia National Team player posted his position statement to his official Facebook page.

Meanwhile, report says Ansu Keita has a two-year contract worth almost USD$150, 000 United States dollars and hosts of other benefits.

According to our sources, the benefits include, among other things, a win bonus of USD 1,500, a monthly feeding allowance of USD 500, $100 for laundry, $150 for wifi, $200 for gas, and $50 for car washing. Coach Keita also receives one round-trip ticket in economy class per year to visit his family in Canada.
