CAF Independent Inspector administered inspection on SKD again

The Independent CAF Licensing Inspector, Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi, conducted an inspection on the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Stadium on June 30, 2022.

The Stadium if certified, will host Liberia verse, South Africa, at home for the 2022 CHAN Qualifiers and the second round of the 2023 AFCON Qualifiers.

Since the shocking FIFA pronouncement in May of 2021 that the stadium is among several other stadiums in Africa that failed to meet current-day stadium requirements, the government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports has done massive renovations including the installation of a hot and cold water system in both players and match officials bathrooms, media tribune, anti-doping room, lighting, installation of bucket seats, artificial turf, clinic, among others as a means of meeting the requirements.

The CAF Inspector was guarded by Deputy Sports Minister G. Andy Quamie and Assistant Sports Minister James B. Toee and a representative of the Liberia Football Association, Alex Nagbo, and several other employees of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the LFA.

According to our reporter who was part of the inspection, the Ghanaian was very much eager in ensuring that the right things are done.

The last time Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi inspected the SKD was on August 2-3, 2021, when the government began massive refurbishment on the stadium for the first time to ensure the stadium meets the standard to host Liberia 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier matches.

He, however, returned and conducted another inspection at which time Liberia was given one match approval to host the Central Africa Republic in early September, but the decision was overturned on August 24, 2021, following another inspection by CAF Senior Licensing Manager, Mohammed Sidat.

Following that shocking information, CAF asked to administer a re-inspection in September 2021, ahead of Liberia’s home match with Cape Verde Island, but the Liberia Football Association canceled the inspection as a means of avoiding further embarrassment.

The Liberia football association and the government of Liberia through the Ministry of Youth addressed a joined news conference on September 15, 2021, to announce to the public that Liberia will use Ghana as its home venue for her home match against Cape Verde.

LFA boss Mustapha Raji at the news conference said at the Ghanaian City Council government charged Liberia twenty thousand United States (USD20K) just to play a single match, but it was negotiable.
