The Liberia Council of Churches has strongly condemned the video that was circulated on social media and declared it false and encouraged Liberians to be calm and peaceful.

During the weekend, video news claimed to be findings from an investigation conducted by the international community in Liberia went virus alleging that President George Weah is training criminals from Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Jamaica, and the Middle East in Grand Gedeh County purposely to rig the  2023 presidential and legislative elections.

Addressing a press conference in Monrovia,  the LCC President, Samuel Reeves, called on all Liberians regardless of religious, social, political, ethnic, or economic affiliations to cherish the peace of Liberians already living under hard economic.

The LCC President said, they as a council, have sole responsibility to seek peace and mediate dialogue and prevent chaos. Reverend Doctor Reeves added that the council believes that the security of the country is paramount and supersedes all vested interests.

The Liberia Council of Churches has urged all Liberians to stay away from all forms, shapes, and manners of violence during these critical times ahead of the general and presidential elections.

Reverend Doctor Reeves, who is also the President of the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention, admonished political leaders in the country, both ruling and opposition, to prevail on their supporters to desist from acts that have the predisposition to spill out into violence.

The LCC President has encouraged the Ministry of Justice to fast-track an investigation into such an alarming video and brings to justice the source of the recording.

Meanwhile, the council will next week begin several stakeholders’ engagements with the Liberian government, leaders of political parties, civil society organizations, traditional leaders, and other religious leaders.

According to Reverend Doctor Reeves, these engagements will cover the National Elections Commission, the Liberian government through the Ministry of Justice, the political parties, the Inter-religious Council of Liberia, and Liberia’s international partners.

These engagements will center on means through which the LCC can be of help in solidifying the peace ahead of the 2023 presidential and legislative elections in the country.

In a related story, the LCC wishes to announce that it will in December commence a radio program on how best the council can continue to educate and inform Liberians about ways and means they can all protect the peace in the country.
