Dr. Whapoe Condemns the Act of Imputation of Illegal Weapons into Liberia

Monrovia- The Political Leader of Vision for Liberia Transformation Party Dr. Jeremiah Whapoe has condemned the act of imputation of illegal weapons in the country by unpatriotic Liberian but blem president Weah for the imputation of the weapons.

He asserts that the Liberian leader has been making statements that have the potential to foster corruption in the nation. Dr. Whapoe said at a news conference on Friday, January 6, 2023, in Monrovia that President Weah may have been acting on his advice when he advised people to buy CCTV cameras to protect themselves rather than ordering state security to conduct a thorough investigation into the deaths of prominent citizens.

He asserted that the Liberian President’s statements have a history of undermining national security, saying that the President’s assertions about weaponry prompted some unpatriotic Liberians to disregard legal requirements and undermined public confidence in the security apparatus.

The VOLTP political leader argues that it is the duty of state security to protect everyone within the borders of the nation; he emphasizes that the LNP should first obtain a search warrant from the supreme court before searching people’s homes and vehicles to make sure that they are not traveling across the nation with illegal weapons. He bemoaned the fact that President Weah is ignorant of the statements that put citizens’ lives in jeopardy or that any of the president’s statements have ever turned into official policy.

He asserted that the government lacks the capacity to apply the law, particularly enforcement agencies as such, and as a result, residents have little regard for the government. As a result, he said, individuals are abusing the system, which is a terrible situation. As the investigation into the incident continues, he then issues a warning to the LNP to fully alert the public about the illegal weapons. He has also urged the head of the National Elections Commission, Madam Davidetta Browne Lassana, to act responsibly in order to prevent needless unrest in the nation.

The Vision for Liberia Transformation Party expressed concern about the current situation at the NEC, pointing out that the NEC, at this crucial juncture in the country, is looking out for the peace and security of the state, and as such, the Institution should always live in the positive directions. He emphasized that if caution is not exercised, the NEC might lead to a constitutional crisis, warning the international community to get involved.
