The Center for Media Studies and Peacebuilding (CEMESP) has concluded three days of training for Public Information Officers across government ministries and agencies.

The training was aimed at affording Public Information Officers administrative training on processing, handling, and delivery of Freedom of Information (FOI) Requests.

Speaking at the opening of the training CEMESP’S Executive Director Malcolm Joseph, said the objective of the training was to “strengthen institutional capacity and build relationships and supporting access to information”.

Mr. Joseph also thanked Inter news and the European Union for supporting the initiative and challenging participants for meaningful interactions.

Also making a remark, the press union of Liberia President Charles Coffey called for a mutual relationship between Public Relations Officers and the media to ensure free flow of information.

Mr. Coffey disclosed that the Press Union has received several complaints regarding the delay in providing information and response to FOI requests.

He emphasized that it is the responsibility of Public Relations Officers to provide information upon request, urging them to do so voluntarily.

The training was organized by Liberia Media Initiative Project with funding from the European Union and co-implemented by Inter news and Local basically to tackle misinformation and disinformation as well as increasing demand for the use of Freedom of Information in Liberia.
