Monrovia, Liberia – According to the most recent progressive tally report made public by the National Elections Commission, incumbent President George Weah of the CDC and former Vice President and Unity Party Standard Bearer Joseph Boakai are in a virtual tie for the presidency.

Chairperson of the National Elections Commission Davidetta Brown Lasanna revealed in the report read on Monday, October 16, 2023, that standard bearer for the Unity Party, Joseph Boakai, received 748,463 votes, or 43.7%, while incumbent, George Weah, received 747, 578 votes, or 43.6%.

In a hotly contested presidential run, Joe Boakai outpaces George Weah by 885 votes with information provided by the NEC. If neither candidate receives more than fifty plus one percent of the total votes, a run-off election will be conducted.

The former Soccer Star and Peace Ambassador, Mr. Weah is said to have defeated Mr. Boakai in a run-off in the 2017 General Election with 61.5% of the total votes.
