Monrovia, Liberia – On the fringes of the Forum On China- Africa-Cooperation on Thursday, September 5, 2024, Liberia’s First Lady Kartumu Y. Boakai joined her fellow Africa First Ladies at the Women’s Empowerment Through Education Meeting conducted by the First Lady of China, Dr. Peng Liyuan. Beijing, China.
During the conference, the First Lady of China, Peng Liyuan, underlined the need of women’s education and the shared goals of China and Africa in expanding women’s education to create a better future according to a September 7, 2024 Executive Mansion release.
Through their diligence, insight, and passion, Chinese and African women have made outstanding achievements, she underlined. Among the several attendees were Marie Khone Faye, the wife of Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who thanked Dr. Peng for her exceptional efforts in advancing the education of African girls and women.
Also appreciated were China’s consistent support and assistance in allied sectors. Among the offers to the conference guests were children’s singing, Peking Opera, and a tour of exhibitions stressing China’s traditional culture and women’s educational accomplishments.
Emphasizing women’s empowerment in their own countries, the First Ladies discussed ideals and their commitment to learning. Mrs. Boakai expressed thanks for the invite and said she looks to raise the voices of Liberian women and girls for economic development and opportunities when she thinks back on the conference.
Under the direction of the Chinese First Lady, the Women Empowerment Through Education Conference drew notable leaders and participants to advance women’s education and empowerment, so improving relations between China and African nations.
