Monrovia, Liberia – The alleged public stripping and humiliation of a young woman has been condemned by the Liberian Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, which describes the incident as a grave breach of human dignity and a concerning indication of an increase in gender-based violence in Liberia.
In a statement released on Friday, May 8, the fraternity urged the Liberian government and relevant institutions to carry out a speedy and transparent investigation and guarantee the prosecution of all those involved.
The organization stressed that violence and public humiliation against women must never be accepted and cautioned that embracing such abuse undermines public confidence in the legal system and gives offenders more confidence.
While reiterating its dedication to justice and fight for the protection of women and girls throughout Liberia, Alpha Phi Alpha also called for the victim to get immediate medical, mental health, legal, and social care.
The group’s declaration follows an incident that took place in Redlight on Wednesday, May 7, 2026, in which a group of men and women accused a woman of indecent dressing and stripped her naked.
While the investigation is ongoing, the Liberia National Police (LNP) has detained seven people in relation to the incident.
