Monrovia, Liberia – The United States Ambassador to the UN has commended the people of Liberia for using their right to vote in the 2023 presidential runoff. In yesterday’s runoff election, the people of Liberia reaffirmed their commitment to democracy, according to Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield. We applaud their commitment to peacefully and widely exercising their right to vote.

She added that the US will keep pushing for accountability and confronting those who try to sabotage the democratic process through violence, intimidation, or fraud.

One of the longest continuous republics in the world, Liberia has the potential to become a regional leader in peaceful, citizen-centered democratic governance, according to Ambassador Thomas-Grenfield, who noted that during the election process, Liberians from all walks of life have indicated their desire for this to happen. The United States is still dedicated to assisting the Liberian people in achieving this objective, the diplomat added.
