CALLS FOR SPEEDY INVESTIGATION INTO THE MATTER

The Administration of the African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU) has expressed shock by the unprovoked attacks on its premises by khaki-wearing young men believed to be members of the Student Unification Party (SUP).

According to a press statement, AME University considers such actions not just an attack on peaceful young men and women acquiring education on the university’s campuses, but on the peace and stability of the state.

The university condemns the attack in no uncertain terms and calls on the Liberian National Police and relevant state actors to investigate the matter to its logical conclusion and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

AME University noted that its students, staff, and users of their facilities can now go about their normal activities as calm has been restored, and assured security guards, with the assistance of the Liberia National Police have been placed on high alert to avert the recurrence of such a chaotic scene.

On Wednesday, August 10, 2022, the street of Camp Johnson Road was flooded with young men at about 16:00 GMT in Monrovia, obstructing regular business and movement in Liberia’s capital city. We are also informed that the final year students of the university were also defending their final thesis paper.
