Monrovia, Liberia – Partial results from Wednesday’s parliamentary election indicate that the African National Congress (ANC), the ruling party in South Africa, is likely to lose its majority in parliament for the first time since it took office thirty years ago.
The ANC is in the lead with 42% of the vote, followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) with 23% after results from 57% of polling districts have been counted thus far.
With 11% of the vote, the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) of former President Jacob Zuma and the Economic Freedom Fighters party received about 10% of the vote each.
The final outcomes should be known over the weekend, according to the BBC.
Poll displays displayed zero results on Friday morning due to an outage in the online system that was streaming the election results.
The election commission of South Africa has apologized for the problem and subsequently brought back the service.
