Nimba County, Liberia – An important milestone in ArcelorMittal Liberia’s ongoing Phase II expansion project will be reached this Thursday with the official dedication of a state-of-the-art iron ore concentrator in Nimba County.
His Excellency President Joseph Boakai and Mr. Lakshmi Mittal, Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal, are anticipated to attend the occasion.
With more than 126,000 workers and activities in 60 countries, ArcelorMittal is a world leader in mining and steel. The company has committed more than USD 2 billion in its Phase II development in Liberia.
By 2025, this project will treble yearly output from 5 million to 20 million tonnes, establishing Liberia as the location of the first high-capacity iron ore concentrator in West Africa.
A key part of ArcelorMittal Liberia’s vertically integrated activities, the concentrator is situated in Yekepa, Nimba County, and represents a strategic investment in the country’s future.
These include Tokadeh mining operations, a 243-kilometer rail line that connects Yekepa and Buchanan in Grand Bassa County, and port handling facilities for the export of iron ore.
