Monrovia, Liberia – Two senior forensic specialists from FTI Consulting are being brought in by the Liberian government through the Assets Recovery and Property Retrieval Task Force (AREPT) to help track down and retrieve assets obtained illegally as part of an attempt to strengthen its anti-corruption efforts. On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, Andrew Durant and Wayne Anthony will come to assist AREPT in its investigation of assets and public funds that have been embezzled.
The visit, which aims to increase Liberia’s ability to locate stolen assets, is free for the government, according to an AREPT release. As a sign of FTI Consulting’s dedication to aiding Liberia’s anti-corruption initiatives, Durant and Anthony have offered to do a free first two-week case evaluation.
To spearhead Liberia’s efforts to track down, retrieve, and prosecute instances involving unlawfully obtained public assets, the Assets Recovery and Property Retrieval Task Force (AREPT) was established. President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. issued Executive Order No. 145, which governs the task group and strengthens the government’s position on accountability and corruption.
Under the direction of Cllr. Edwin Kla Martin, AREPT is in charge of looking into and recovering liquid and fixed assets that have been embezzled by current and previous authorities. For the sake of the Liberian people, the task force is essential in making sure that seized money and assets are put back into the country’s development.
Financial mismanagement has long plagued Liberia, and previous attempts to reclaim its assets have frequently been sluggish and unsuccessful. Nonetheless, a fresh effort for accountability and openness is indicated by the appearance of these foreign forensic specialists. It is anticipated that Durant and Anthony, who have vast expertise in cross-border investigations, would support Liberia’s asset recovery initiatives by assisting in the discovery of hidden money and the prosecution of corrupt officials.
According to AREPT, it is eager to collaborate closely with FTI Consulting in order to guarantee the identification, recovery, and restitution of stolen assets to the Liberian people.
FTI Consulting is well-known around the world for its proficiency in asset tracing, financial fraud detection, and forensic investigations. In a number of nations, including Nigeria, one of the biggest asset recovery cases in Africa, the organization has successfully helped governments, central banks, and financial institutions find and return stolen funds.
