Monrovia, Liberia – In order to avoid unspecified legal actions, the newly appointed Liberia’s Assets Recovery Property Retrieval Taskforce has given former government officials, employees, and private individuals who are still in possession of government properties a 10-day ultimatum to voluntarily surrender them starting on Friday, March 22 and ending on March 31, 2024.

At the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) Regular Press Briefing on Thursday in Monrovia, Cllr. Edwin Kla Martin, the Taskforce Chairperson, stated that the procedure is not intended to persecute or stigmatize any one group.

No one will be wrongfully accused due to their political membership, he continued, adding that the recovery and retrieval procedures will be based on convincing evidence.

In addition to promising to keep whistleblowers’ identities private and secure, the taskforce is simultaneously pleading with citizens for assistance in providing pertinent information regarding any concealed or pilfered public assets.

The President Boakai Executive Order, according to Cllr. Edwin Kla Martin, aims to start a new chapter for accountability and good administration.

claiming that the foundation of civilized nations worldwide is the road of responsible leadership and accountability. He pointed out that the foundations of democracy, responsible government, accountability, and the rule of law form the basis of civilized nations.

The Assets Recovery Chair maintained that corrupt nations, as opposed to civilized nations, are vouchers that undermine the state and its citizens.

Adject poverty, inadequate health care delivery systems, underdevelopment, poor roads, subpar educational initiatives, and low compensation for system workers are among the harmful effects of corrupt nations, he claimed.
