Monrovia, Liberia – The National Executive Committee of the Liberia National Students’ Union (LINSU) has express joy the announcement that its President, James Gbelee-Washington, has been appointed by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, to serve on the National Youth Advisory Council of the Office of the President.

According to LINSU statement dated December 10, 2024, the council also includes the President of the Federation of Liberian Youth and the Speaker of the Mano River Union Youth Parliament, Liberia Chapter.

LINSU believes that this landmark decision clearly demonstrates President Boakai’s commitment to amplifying youth voices and fostering inclusive governance by engaging key representatives of Liberia’s vibrant statutory youth population in national development discourse.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to the President for his foresight in constituting this vital council and his unwavering commitment to empowering young leaders,” the statement said.

As the national student organization, LINSU affirms its steadfast support for the Youth Advisory Council’s goals and stresses that its involvement will be motivated by a strong commitment to furthering the interests of Liberian students, making sure that their opinions continue to play a crucial role in forming laws that will impact their future.

As a student representation organization, LINSU maintained, it is also dedicated to upholding the fundamental principles of the independence and autonomy.

In keeping with the values of openness, responsibility, inclusivity, and sound governance that LINSU upholds, the student body said, it is certain that President Washington will serve on the council with the highest integrity, according to the statement.

In order to solve the issues that Liberia’s youth and students face, especially in the areas of education, innovation, and empowerment, “we are eager to collaborate with the council and other stakeholders.”

The student body is confident that with continued partnerships like this,  the country can forge a revolutionary course that will practically enhance the role of youth in peacekeeping, national development, and an inclusive and prosperous Liberia for all while elevating youth voices through policy advocacy.
