Monrovia, Liberia – The 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has been celebrated with congratulations from President Joseph N. Boakai.
The President attended the ceremonial opening of the ECOWAS Golden Jubilee festivities at the Accra International Conference Centre in Accra, Ghana, on April 23, 2025, according to a statement from the Executive Mansion.
He highlighted Liberia’s steadfast adherence to the ideals and goals of the regional bloc while praising ECOWAS as a lighthouse of regional integration, peace, and economic cooperation.
The Liberian leader emphasized the country’s commitment to encouraging cooperation and solidarity among its member nations.
“Liberia remains steadfast in its support for the Organization’s mission and will continue to work collaboratively with fellow member states to address our shared challenges and aspirations,” President Boakai said, adding that ECOWAS has played a significant role in fostering stability and development throughout West Africa.
Member states use the Golden Jubilee celebrations as a forum to consider the accomplishments of the previous fifty years and to plan for upcoming projects that will further regional integration and prosperity.
A high-level group led by President Boakai includes Deputy Finance Minister for Fiscal Affairs Anthony Myers, National Security Advisor Samuel Kofi Woods, Economic Advisor Morley Kamara, Minister of State Without Portfolio Mamaka Bility, and Foreign Minister Sarah Beysolow-Nyanti.
