Monrovia, Liberia – After being closed to cars and motorcyclists for years, Bona, a settlement at the lowest point of Mount Yuelliton, is finally reachable. In cooperation with the legislators and the Nimba Project Management Committee, the bridges along the route were finished using the 20% social development budget that ArcelorMittal Liberia allocated for community development.
Up until the AML Infrastructure team stepped in and utilized its road equipment to make things better, the road was still inaccessible to cars despite the bridges being built, with the exception of motorcyclists that managed to make their way along the paths that farmers and tourists visited.
To the joy of Town Chief Erickson Flomo and his people, vehicles now travel to the town to deliver plantains and other agricultural products to the market.
The intervention started in June 2024 with roadside cleaning and grading the major stretch from T-Gate in Yekepa to Lugbehyee and then to Bona. However, at that time, the town (Bona) could not be reached by the rehabilitation operation since there was no bridge nearby. After the holiday season ended, the infrastructure crew resumed their work and reached in the town.

“We are happy for the road to reach here. Now cars can come to Bona to get goods, and we can move quickly on motorbikes when we want to. I want to thank ArcelorMittal for the relationship that has started, and we hope to continue,” said Town Chief Flomo.
He explained that the improved condition of the road enhances their safety and is helping to prevent road accidents and other security risks.
According to the Town Chief, the intervention marks a new beginning in the partnership between AML and Bona Town, which they intend to maintain and grow. Mr. Flomo added that by doing this, they will assist in safeguarding ArcelorMittal Liberia’s activities and warned local youths against actions that may jeopardize the company’s reputation.
