Thousands of women from Monrovia traveled to Tubmanburg, the capital of Bomi County, on Saturday, February 18, 2023, to support President George Weah’s nomination. Madam Fatu Sawary, the chairperson of the CDC National Women League, led the group.
Remarking at the ceremony CDC National Women league chairperson Madam Fatu Sawary called for more Women empowerment in Liberia, noting that no country can be successful without female support, describing women as the most important group of people to every nation’s growth and development.
“In my capacity as National Chair-lady of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change, I intend to collaborate with Party leaders and other interested parties to empower more women through agriculture. I am a single mother and I am aware of the challenges that come with it. Mr. President, your women are prepared for farming, development, and greater change. Consequently, I urge you all to choose Mr. Weah to serve as this country’s president for a second term. We must give one round of victory to President Weah come October 10, 2023, General Elections.”
In parallel, Senator Edwin Snow and Bomi County Development Superintendent Amos Cooper both expressed their support for the women’s decision in separate speeches, saying that the government must work properly with Bomi residents, particularly the women, to ensure President Weah’s reelection.
Some members of the governing Coalition for Democratic Change, including the Liberia People’s Democratic Party, and the National Patriotic Party were accused of allegedly missing the County’s program.
