UP PROVOKED VIOLENCE BY DELIBERATELY INGNORING CDC’s PREVAILING SCHELDUE, BRUTTALIZE CDC PARTISANS

Monrovia, Liberia – The Coalition for Democratic Change has issued a statement debunking the Unity party of its alleged actions against some of its partisans on Thursday, August 10, 2023, during their campaign rally in Montserrado County District #9 and 10.

The CDC asserts that the UP’s Thursday assertion that it interfered with its operations at the party’s campaign office at Airfield Sinkor was untrue.

They pointed out that the ongoing district engagements of the Weah-Taylor 2023 campaign committee’s standard bearer and vice standard bearer, which were continuing on Thursday in Districts #9 and 10, had been advertised a week earlier on a variety of national media channels. They further stated that the National Election Commission received communication from the CDC regarding important campaign dates.

‘In spite of the prior announcement, the Weah-Taylor 2023 campaign committee, recognizing that the Unity Party was seeking to provoke violence by deliberately ignoring the CDC’s prevailing campaign schedule by going ahead to plan their own event on the same day, decided to postponed the prescheduled start activities in District 9 for more than fours to avoid any conflict with UP partisans who had announced a press conference for 10 AM on Thursday. As a consequence of the irresponsible and violent actions of the Unity Party, partisans of the Coalition for the Democratic Change were brutalized by partisans of the UP partisans.”

The Weah-Taylor campaign committee called the attention of the National Election Commission, UN Resident Coordinator, Office of ECOWAS Representative, and other international partners to the flagrant provocation from the Unity Party and urged their prompt intervention to prevent a future recurrence, according to the statement signed by the National Campaign Spokesman, Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala.

The Weah-Taylor 2023 campaign committee reassured Liberians that the party is still devoted to honoring the rules and principles of the Farmington Declaration and that it will continue to be peaceful.
