Monrovia, Liberia – On Wednesday, August 9 2023, at the SKD, Watanga FC defeated Discoveries Sports Academy 3-2 in a test match thanks to a hat-trick from Chauncy Freeman.

The game is one of several that Watanga Football Club’s administration has booked before their preliminary round matchup with Stade Malien in the 2023–2024 CAF Confederation Cup.

The first leg of this match will be played at home against Wantaga FC on Sunday, August 20 at 4 p.m. at the SKD, with the return match taking place in Mali on August 27.

The winner of the two games combined will proceed to the next round of qualifying.

Cooper Sannah, the tactician at Wantaga FC, has enlisted fresh talent to bolster his team and promote Liberia.

Among the famous individuals are Daniel Nyemah, Natu Swen, Hassan Fadiga, Emmanuel Sieh, Theo Nimely, and Emmanuel Fully.

The former Liberian champions failed to get past the first round of the 2022–2023 season, but the entry of some outstanding young players has opened the door for improved performance in this edition.

The Paynesville-based club’s invitation to compete came as a result of their Orange Cup grand final appearance, which they lost to Liscr FC but nevertheless advanced them to the CAF Confederation Cup while Liscr, the defending winner, advanced to the CAF Champions League.

In the opening rounds of the qualifiers, Liscr will face off against Bo Rangers, the champion team from Sierra Leone. On August 20, they will be absent for the opening leg.
