CAUSES SENATE TO POSPONE CONFIRMATION HEARING OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER DESIGNATE
Monrovia, Liberia – Senate Foreign Affairs Chair Abraham Darius Dillon postponed the confirmation hearing for Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti due to overcrowding in the chambers and a security protocol violation.
The Senate’s Secretary of the Senate made a grave mistake, according to Senator Abraham Darius Dillon, by allowing non-senators to barge into the chamber. This resulted in the abrupt postponement of Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti’s confirmation hearing.
On February 1, 2024, after President Joseph Boakai nominated her, the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Senator Abraham Darius Dillon of Montserrado County, heard testimony from the nominee for Foreign Affairs Minister.
A report claimed that Madam Nyanti had an unprecedented group of supporters accompanying her to the hearing in the body’s main chamber, including well-known national and international figures, former ambassadors, political figures, and family members.
On Senate Secretary Nanborlor Singbeh’s command, the bulk of those who were allowed to enter the chamber took up most of the senators’ chairs, occupying them as they awaited the right setup to start the hearing.
Senator Abraham Darius Dillon of Montserrado County, who also serves as the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, informed legislative reporters on Thursday, February 1, 2024, that the confirmation had been rescheduled for Monday, February 5, 2024, due to a security breach and mistake by the Secretary that resulted in non-senators occupying senatorial seats.
The congressman, speaking in a furious manner, stated that his committee will make all the required arrangements before the hearing on Monday, emphasizing that the Supreme Court of Liberia cannot accept what transpired in the chamber.
