Monrovia, Liberia – Chief Arthur Dowah succeeded Chief Zanzar Kawor as the new corps of officials chosen by the National Council of Chiefs over the weekend. Chief Arthur Dowah’s leadership is anticipated to be crucial in promoting Liberia’s cultural heritage and promoting peace.
The 15-member Council elected Paramount Chief Arthur W. Dowah of Boinsen Chiefdom, KOKoya District, Bong County, as National Chairperson in Gompa, Nimba County. In attendance were county superintendents, other local government officials, the media, civic society organizations, and other notable figures from the 15 counties.
In September 2018, former President George Manneh Weah signed Chapter 3 of the Local Government Act of 2018, which was fulfilled by the election. A National Council of Chiefs was founded in lieu of the National Traditional Council, which was led by Chief Zarzar Karwor, as a result of the law.

The Local Government Act of 2018 stipulates that Chief Dowah will serve a two-year term. With a depth of expertise and a commitment to helping his community, the new Chief Zoe takes on the role with great enthusiasm.
Two other elected officials are the female Paramount Chief Rhoda Garmu of Grand Gedeh County, who is the National Vice Chairperson for Peacebuilding and Reconciliation, and Paramount Chief Ballah Gbotorlu of Lofa County, who is the National Vice Chair for Culture and Traditional Affairs.
These recently elected chiefs have expressed readiness to contribute their special insights and experience to their roles, striving to uphold traditional values and foster national unity.
