DONATES MEDICAL SUPPLIES WORTH US$100, 000

Monrovia, Liberia – A total of US$100,000 worth of medical supplies has been provided by the People’s Republic of China to the cardiology program and the John F. Kennedy (JFK) Medical Center.

Liberia also received a new medical team from China. The event commemorated the China Medical Team’s 40th anniversary of entering Liberia.

Twenty years after the conclusion of the West African country’s civil war, Liberia has struggled to rebuild a trustworthy health system. This is mostly due to foreign assistance, particularly China’s help for the country’s health system.

Sterilizers, dental radiography, antimicrobials, and therapeutically utilized antimalarials were among the supplies donated.

With the establishment of the China-Aid Medical Team Program in 1984, China and Liberia have established a strong alliance and have fought diseases like COVID-19 and Ebola together.

The courageous spirit of overcoming adversity, being willing to dedicate oneself, saving lives, aiding the injured, and demonstrating immense devotion has been personified by the China-Aid Medical Team.

The two governments further strengthened their relationship in 2022 when they agreed to a new set of protocols for sending the China Medical Team to Liberia (2022–2027).

Yin Chengwu, the Chinese ambassador to Liberia, stated at the donation that President Xi Jinping had declared in his speech on May 18, 2020, that 30 mechanisms for medical cooperation between China and Africa would be formed.

He noted that, as a result, the initiative succeeds in maintaining medical and nursing skills, raising the standard of cardiovascular disease diagnosis and treatment, and strengthening the capacity to handle critical and emergency illnesses.

Ambassador Chengwu pledged that China is still adamant about helping Liberia advance its healthcare system through a variety of channels, and they are prepared to work with the country’s citizens to create a future where everyone may live in health and happiness.

The effort and other current health-related projects, according to the diplomat, are evidence of the significant and continuously growing medical collaboration between China and Liberia.

Dr. Robert Dennis, the Officer in Charge at the JFK, praised the Chinese government for the grant and called it a gift to Liberia. He pledged JFK to continue working with the people of China.
