Monrovia, Liberia – On July 19, 2023, Cllr. Tiawon Gongloe, the political head of the Liberian People’s Party, officially launched a political pressure group under the name “Anti-Corruption Campaigners” in Monrovia. Partisans, friends, and sympathizers of the Liberian People’s Party came together for the “Anti-Corruption Campaigners” event, which kicked off with a parade from Broad Street to Ashmuman Street, in Central Monrovia.
The goal of the Anti-Corruption Campaign Parade, according to Cllr. Tiawan Gongloe, is to demonstrate to the world how prepared Liberians are to fight corruption. He claimed that because of corruption, most parents are unable to send their kids to school, most hospitals lack medication, and the rate of hunger in the nation has increased.
The CDC government, led by President George Weah, is not interested in fighting corruption, according to Cllr. Gongloe, who also observed that the president continues to do business with convicted individuals and sanctions former government officials, both of which go against the interests of the nation.
The LPP Standard Bearer urged voters to reject elected politicians who are enriching themselves with public funds at the expense of the general populace. “Vote out corrupt officials for the country’s benefit by doing so; this will also demonstrate to the rest of the world Liberians’ willingness to fight corruption.”
Cllr. Gongloe stressed the need for fresh leadership that will promote social harmony, economic progress, and infrastructural improvement. He emphasized the critical need for capable leadership with a fresh outlook to promote harmony, fight corruption, and maintain accountability and openness in Liberia’s political system.
Cllr. Gongole asserted that a robust and independent judiciary, along with political stability and the restoration of the rule of law, are essential for economic growth and recovery.
