China-The Communist Party of China has laid out an ambitious blueprint to comprehensively advance Chinese modernization, a key task it has laid out for the next five years and beyond to realize national rejuvenation, at a crucial time when China is starting a new journey to build a modern socialist country in every respect.

At the opening session of the 20th CPC National Congress on Sunday, Xi Jinping gave a report on behalf of the 19th CPC Central Committee. He elaborated on the nature and operation of the Chinese route to modernization and claimed that it provides humanity with a “new choice” for modernization, according to CHINADAILY.COM.CN.

In order to emphasize that Chinese modernization is socialist modernization undertaken under the direction of the Party, Xi remarked that while it has components that are universal to modernization processes worldwide, “it is more distinguished by features that are unique to the Chinese situation.”

Generations of Chinese people have worked to achieve the modernization of their nation since the People’s Republic of China was established in 1949. In 2021, China finished the historic work of creating a society that was moderately prosperous overall, and Xi opened a new era for the country’s subsequent decades-long modernization. In his report to the 20th CPC National Congress, he stated that China’s modernization will benefit a sizable portion of its populace and will be characterized by widespread prosperity for all citizens, material abundance and cultural and ethical enrichment, harmony between people and the natural world, and peaceful development.

By 2035, China seeks to essentially complete socialist modernization, and by the middle of this century, it wants to have built a great modern socialist nation that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful. The report outlines a number of actions, such as notably boosting economic power, scientific and technological prowess, and overall national strength; essentially modernizing the system and capacity for governance; enhancing the system for whole-process people’s democracy, and significantly expanding the middle-income group. Common prosperity has emerged as one of the key ideas influencing Chinese policymakers in recent years, according to Alessandro Golombiewski Teixeira, a professor of public policy at Tsinghua University’s School of Public Policy and Management.

In an article that appeared on the China Global Television Network website, Teixeira stated that “this is a bold pledge for all Chinese, and common prosperity will become an important characteristic of China’s socialist modernization.”

“China’s practice of pursuing common prosperity is of great global significance. If it succeeds, it will provide the world, especially the vast number of developing countries, with a choice of their own development path.”

A writer, economist, and chartered financial analyst from Ghana named Alexander Ayertey Odonkor praised China for its efforts to conserve the environment while pursuing modernity. In an opinion piece posted on the CGTN website, he claimed that China has worked to strike a balance between long-term economic growth, environmental protection, and promoting peaceful coexistence between people and the environment. He described this as an impressive achievement that establishes China as a special case of how to do this. Externally, China’s modernization must contend with a more unstable and quickly changing international environment. The COVID-19 pandemic, the Ukraine crisis, the escalating geopolitical rivalry, and rising unilateralism and protectionism have all hampered China’s development environment.
