AFTER SPENDING 12 NIGHTS IN PRISON

Capital Hill, Monrovia – Gloria Musu Scott, a former chief justice, and others spend 12 nights in jail after Criminal Court “A” rejects their application for bail. On Tuesday, July 4, 2023, Criminal Court “A” rejected a request for bail made by the attorneys representing former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott and three other defendants.

Following an indictment drawn by the fifteen-member special jury session, the motion was filed according to reports.

Invoking Chapter 21(h) of the 1986 Constitution and Chapter 13.1 of the Criminal Procedure Law, the defense attorneys contended that Cllr. Scott should be released on personal recognizance because she is a former chief Justice and a State woman.

But the prosecution contended that the defense’s motion for bail should be rejected, citing Article 21 (d) and (I), which provides that all offenses shall be punishable by a fine unless they are death offenses.
