Monrovia, Liberia – The Alternative National Congress (ANC), like many others, has condemned the violence and lawlessness that erupted early on Thursday morning in the area of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) headquarters.

The African National Congress (ANC) called the incident a “sharp reminder of the dark days of Liberia’s recent past” and called for unity to prevent the country from returning to the years of gangsterism and violence. The African National Congress (ANC) is adamant that there is a better way to respond to disputes and a better method to enforce the law.

As stated in its statement, Liberia is a country for all of its people, not simply CDCians or UP partisans to choose fights that may cause them harm.

“For the benefit of our nation as a whole, we must put aside our partisan differences and cooperate. We demand that the government behave justly and responsibly and we strongly condemn the violence. It is essential to establish an impartial panel to look into the dispute and provide its conclusions as soon as possible. The people of Liberia are entitled to openness and responsibility, and severe disturbances and harm done to our people and our state must have repercussions.”

According to the ANC’s statement, it is in solidarity with the families and victims of the violence that occurred on Thursday, August 22, 2024.

“We sincerely sympathize with everyone who was harmed and impacted by this senseless crime. We are praying for you and sending our best wishes during this trying time. It’s time we stop this, we cannot watch while violence and lawlessness rip apart our dear country. It is imperative that all Liberians unite and demand greater standards from both our leaders and ourselves. Our goal must be a just, peaceful, and wealthy Liberia where everyone feels valued and safe under the law.”

The African National Congress (ANC) declared that it is still dedicated to fighting for a better future for Liberia and called on all political parties, civil society organizations, and people to unite in denouncing violence and promoting peace and justice.
