PREREQUISITES FOR ENDORSING A CANDIDATE IN RUNOFF

Monrovia, Liberia – The standard Bearer of the Collaborating Political Party (CPP), Alexander Cummings has made the establishment of a war and economic crimes court a key factor for his support to any of the two presidential candidates in the runoff. On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, Cummings revealed the information at a press conference held in Monrovia.

The CPP political leader’s statement followed the recent pronouncement made by the National Elections Commission. NEC chairperson, Davidatta Browne Lassanah on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, announced the final results of the October 10 presidential and legislative elections, indicating that no presidential candidate obtained the constitutional threshold of fifty percent plus one vote.

In order to advance to the runoff, incumbent George Weah received eight hundred forty-four thousand votes (43.83 percent), whereas former vice president Joseph Boakai received over seven hundred thousand votes (43.44 percent).

On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, President Weah and Ambassador Boakai separately reached out to Mr. Cummings to seek his support for the runoff, which is slated for November 14, 2023. Cummings, however, named his vice standard bearer, Cllr. Charlyne Brumskine, to head the five-man team that will engage with the two runoff candidates in the coming days.
