Monrovia, Liberia – The 55th Legislature and the Liberian media have been urged by President Joseph N. Boakai to show dedication in the proper path. Speaking on Sunday, October 20, 2024, after arriving from Rome, Italy, Boakai referred to the media as society’s watchdog and the legislature as the first arm of government.
The President asserts that the Legislature ought to start working in the best interests of the entire nation and take its duties seriously.
“I call on the media as the watchdog of society to also take its responsibility with a commitment to truth and moral rectitude.”
The Liberian leader asserted, however, that the Liberia Press plays a significant part in fostering a favorable perception of the country and does more than just report on happenings. He went on to say that the media is in charge of shaping people’s opinions in a world where information is shared quickly and freely, particularly with the rise of social media.
“It is our press that has the ability to highlight the resilience, creativity, and spirit of our people. By
showcasing our achievements, culture, and the incredible stories of everyday Liberians, the press can
counteract negative stereotypes and inspire both our local community and the international audience.”
According to the President, the Liberia Press acts as a watchdog, keeping our leaders responsible and making sure that the voices of the underprivileged are heard. By doing this, it promotes a culture of openness and trust, which are crucial components of a healthy democracy.
Boakai called on the nation and the media community to take advantage of the chance to encourage one another, share in victories, and motivate coming generations. According to him, when the nation remains together, its people can make sure that Liberia’s history is one of resilience, solidarity, and limitless possibilities.
“We have much work to be done. Let us all hold together to build this new inclusive society for all Liberians.”
