FOYA District, Lofa County – Day after the electoral violence attack in Lofa County that led to the death of three Liberians , the Economic Community of West African State ( ECOWAS ) and the United Nations strongly condemn the violence acts carryout by some citizens.

In the run-up the October 10, 2023 elections,ECOWAS and the United Nations (UN) have noted with grave concern the violence that broke out on Friday September 29, 2023 in Lofa County between Opposition Unity Party (UP) and the ruling establishment Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) leading to the loss of three Lives which they condemn in a strongest terms.

ECOWAS and the UN extend deep condolences to the family of the deceased.
In a joint statement released on Saturday, September 30, 2023, by both institutions stated, in the spirit of the Farmington River Declaration 2023, the protection of human rights, and under the due process of the rule of law, ECOWAS and the UN call on the leaders of UP and CDC to strongly urge their partisans to refrain from provocation and any other act of electoral violence.

They further invite the UP and CDC to fully cooperate with the LNP in the ongoing investigations in the County.
ECOWAS and the UN commend the Liberia National Police (LNP) for properly restoring calm in the County ; at the same time urge the LNP to conduct speedy and impartial investigations and make public the findings and ensure that the perpetrators are prosecuted.

ECOWAS and the UN caution the media to be responsible in their reporting so as to avoid inflaming the volatile situation.
ECOWAS and the UN call on Stakeholders and the public to continue upholding the values of peace, accountability, respect for the rule of law in order to consolidate peace and security in Liberia during this critical electoral period.
