Monrovia, Liberia – The overcrowding of public schools nationwide has drawn criticism from Jarso M. Jallah, Minister of Education of Liberia. Dr. Jallah stated that the ministry found that schools are overloaded during their recent county assessment tour in the fourteen counties, during a press briefing on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at the Information Ministry.
According to Minister Jallah, the ministry is developing a strategy to lessen the number of pupils crammed into classrooms around the nation as well as to build, expand, and renovate schools.
“The Ministry shall guarantee that contractors managing the construction process fulfill their contractual obligations; buildings that are either unfinished or not constructed in accordance with specifications will be held responsible.”
Minister Jallah added that the ministry’s objectives are sustainable development and Vision 2030, and that in order to expand educational opportunities and raise standards of instruction, they must make investments in educators, learners, schools, and institutions. According to her, the ministry is making sure that three contemporary schools being built in Bong, Margibi, and Nimba with money from the IRISE/WB project are finished and dedicated.
Dr. Jallah revealed that the Ministry is setting up systems for paying registration fees and making sure that the money raised supports activities at the county, district, and school levels.
