Monrovia, Liberia – Finance and Development Planning Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan has had a productive high-level meeting with senior officials from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) to discuss the implementation of the much-anticipated second MCC Compact, following Liberia’s selection by the MCC Board for the second Compact.

Minister Ngafuan reiterated President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s gratitude to the MCC’s CEO and Senior Management, as well as the US Government, for the nation’s selection during the virtual meeting with Kyeh Kim, the MCC Vice President for Compact Operation, and Jason Small, the Interim Country Director for Liberia.

He recalled the positive impact the first MCC grant had on Liberia, including the building of the Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission, the repair of the Mont Coffee Hydro dam, and assistance to the LWSC in restoring the water pipelines in Monrovia.

Both parties emphasized the importance of strategic planning and leadership as they discussed the next steps for the second MCC Compact during the virtual meeting. Ms. Kim, the MCC’s vice president, expressed excitement for the partnership’s continuation stating, “We’re excited to continue working with Liberia.”

Ms. Kim was pleased to report that during the most recent board meeting, when Liberia was chosen for the second compact, the MCC Board members showed a great deal of excitement for the country.
She also announced that Mr. Small will travel to Liberia, where he will meet with the Finance Minister and other high-ranking government officials and interested parties on the Liberia Compact.
