The Sixth Legislature was presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria, who also serves as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government. He urged the newly elected lawmakers to approach their work with a shared goal of advancing the ECOWAS area. “Our partnership can bring solutions to regional development problems even in the face of ongoing challenges,” Chairman Tinubu stressed.
He declared that he was looking forward to the ECOWAS’s powers being increased, especially the ability for Member States to directly elect their lawmakers. Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, and His Excellency Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, were among the other notable attendees of the inaugural session.
