Saudi Arabia – Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Mme. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, on April 9, 2025 paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the already cordial relations between Liberia and Saudi Arabia and to explore new opportunities for collaboration across various sectors, including political, economic, and developmental agendas.

Foreign Minister Nyanti conveyed her appreciation for the long-standing and productive partnership between the two nations during her conversations with high-ranking Saudi officials. She also emphasized Saudi Arabia’s ongoing assistance to Liberia, highlighting the kingdom’s commitments to the country’s Muslim minority, such as offering pilgrimage spaces.

As part of the larger assistance from the Saudi Fund for Development, she also praised the Saudi government for their kind contribution of US$2 million for renovations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Foreign Minister Nyanti also expressed gratitude for the US$500,000 Saudi Arabia donated to support Liberia’s humanitarian needs by providing 50 metric tons of dates and food supplies.

Seeking Saudi Arabia’s backing for Liberia’s application for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council was one of the main goals of Foreign Minister Nyanti’s visit. She reaffirmed the significance of having Saudi Arabia support Liberia’s candidacy and underlined the country’s dedication to promoting peace and security on an international level.

Along with talking about Liberia’s economic program, Foreign Minister Nyanti emphasized the need for Saudi Arabia to enhance its investment, especially in the energy, infrastructure, and agricultural sectors. To assist speed up Liberia’s growth and raise the standard of living for its citizens, she advocated for increased bilateral collaboration.

President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, Sr., who is still keen to collaborate closely with the King of Saudi Arabia to further strengthen the two countries’ collaboration, sent a message of sympathy through Foreign Minister Nyanti during her speech. She reaffirmed Liberia’s dedication to establishing a partnership with Saudi Arabia that benefits both parties, emphasizing technical, cultural, and economic cooperation.

His Excellency Mr. Waleed A. Elkhereiji, the Saudi Arabian deputy foreign minister and acting foreign minister, commended Liberia for its political maturity, especially in the peaceful handover of power during and after elections. He characterized Liberia’s political stability as a model for peace and sustainable development, as well as a good example for the African continent.

Given the significance of Liberia’s contribution to promoting international peace and security, Deputy Minister Elkhereiji reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support for Liberia’s application for the non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

Deputy Minister Elkhereiji confirmed Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to assisting Liberia’s development goals, especially in the areas of infrastructure, power, and agriculture, in response to Foreign Minister Nyanti’s desire for more bilateral collaboration. In addition, he emphasized how critical it is to resolve geopolitical concerns that can jeopardize international harmony and have repercussions throughout Africa.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the cooperative pursuit of peace, progress, and prosperity for their respective peoples as well as their shared commitment to strengthening the bilateral connections between the two countries as the visit.
