Monrovia, Liberia – On behalf of His President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., the government and people of Liberia, Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti cordially welcomed Mr. Mark Toner, the newly accredited Ambassador-designate of the United States of America to Liberia.

Minister Nyanti commended the US for its ongoing bilateral support of Liberia during the event. She conveyed her appreciation for the US’s continued assistance to the Liberian government and people.

In accordance with diplomatic tradition, the event was held on Monday, August 5, 2024, before to his formal presentation of a letter of credence to the President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.

During her remarks, Foreign Minister Nyanti conveyed President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.’s sincere gratitude and best wishes to Ambassador-designate Toner. She acknowledged that American help has been crucial to Liberia’s ability to manage crises, maintain stability, and uphold peace and harmony in the subregion.

Foreign Minister Nyanti and Ambassador-designate Toner spoke for almost an hour regarding bilateral, multilateral, and international issues. Strengthening the long-standing connections between Liberia and the United States and enhancing cooperation at the UN and other international organizations were the key topics of discussion during their meeting. Human rights, democracy, terrorism, corruption, and climate change were all significant topics.

Foreign Minister Nyanti gave Ambassador-designate Toner confidence that her ministry will support his mission in Liberia in order to make his time fruitful and meaningful. The two officials pledged to collaborate closely to bring Liberia’s and America’s common values and beliefs to reality, which would benefit both nations and promote global peace and development.

As stated by Ambassador-designate Toner, “the United States is determined to fortify bilateral ties and cooperation with Liberia, especially in commerce and other sectors targeted at improving relations.” He also thanked Minister Nyanti for the warm greeting.

Both parties acknowledged their pleasure and gratitude as the conference drew to a close, which spoke well for future US-Liberia collaboration.
