Monrovia, Liberia – In collaboration with the Swedish National Audit Office (SNAO), the General Auditing Commission held a one-day seminar on completing the creation of a project plan for GAC.
With the project set to conclude in 2026, supervisors have received capacity building training on how to use some of the working documents associated with the financial and compliance audits, ensuring that audit evidence is tied to the high-quality basic audit.
The project, which is an international cooperation effort between the General Auditing Commission and the Swedish National Audit Office, aims to provide capacity building initiatives globally, especially in third-world countries, according to GAC Auditor General P. Garswe Jackson Sr., who made this revelation in an exclusive interview with reporters.
Since 2009, SNAO has offered GAC chances for capacity building and training. However, the Auditor General stated that this time, the organization plans to expand the scope of capacity training to human resource activities, where alternative training options are available to supplement the customary audit training.
“In the Gambia in 2022, I inked a memorandum of intent with Sweden’s Auditor General, Helena Lindberg, as a component of this collaboration. In June of last year, I received an invitation to travel to Sweden with a delegation of four people, and we had a lengthy conversation about how to make use of the GAC’s training opportunities.”
According to the Auditor General, five delegations from Sweden have visited the GAC since June 2022 to conduct various training sessions.
He mentioned that the first two groups arrived to conduct training on financial statement audits, the next two groups performed training on performance audits, and the goal of the workshop is now to complete the programmed document in preparation for the start of all activities for the whole two years.
AG Jackson Sr. did, however, emphasize that GAC is committed to expanding the sector by taking advantage of every chance given by its foreign partners.
“For us at the GAC, we want to make the best use of this opportunity because we know that we can not depend on the government of Liberia to provide all of the resources that we need at the GAC.”
The SNAO Project Manager, Isabelle Berglund, concluded by expressing her pleasure over the completion of the project plan and revealing that the upcoming capacity project will be concentrated on two main areas: restoring existing capacity and constructing additional institutional procedures that are required.
She added that Auditor General Jackson and Mrs. Lindberg will sign the project plan in Uganda this year during the AFROSAI-E governing board meeting, and the implementation will continue until the project’s completion in 2026.
“We are thrilled to have completed the project plan for our upcoming initiative to increase capacity. As stated in our memorandum of cooperation, it would have two main objectives: developing existing capability and constructing other institutional procedures that are required, such as HR, communication, and leadership development.”
