Monrovia, Liberia- The Liberian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has refuted claims by the media regarding an alleged travel ban affecting Liberia along with 21 other countries worldwide. During a Senate hearing on Monday, March 17, Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti expressed her astonishment that Liberia was listed among the 21 countries potentially facing a US travel ban, as stated in media reports.

Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti informed the Liberian Senate that the government has not received any updates concerning the claims made so far. It was recently reported that a travel ban, including limitations on visas, may be imposed on Liberia and other nations.

As per reports, the designation indicates that these countries risk being prohibited from entering the United States if they do not adhere to the U.S. regulations concerning the exchange of information about incoming visitors, the security procedures related to passport issuance, and the avoidance of citizenship sales to individuals from nations that are subject to U.S. travel restrictions.

According to Minister Nyanti, the US government was contacted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs via its Embassy in Monrovia, and they verified that nothing of that like had occurred.

The State Department said that there is no “list” to suspend visa from 43 nations, but affirmed that there is a review.
