Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia’s government, through the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, and the World Bank together launched the Governance Reform and Accountability Transformation Project (GREAT) on Thursday, March 20, 2025, with the goal of strengthening the country’s good governance system.

The collaboration agreement with the World Bank was intended to enhance the governance structure within important state institutions, according to Hon. Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Minister of Finance and Development Planning, who spoke at the occasion.

The $30 million effort, in his opinion, is a significant step toward creating more robust institutions. making the procurement process stronger to guarantee cost effectiveness. The initiative’s goal, he said, was to improve public service delivery nationwide.

Speaking at the launch, Oyewole Afiye, Acting World Bank Country Manager to Liberia, Africa, and the West Region, stated that the Government of Liberia’s strong ownership, cooperation, and consistent effort made it easier to prepare the project and helped it get off to a good start.

He stated that the initiative will speed up efforts to reconstruct and restructure important institutions while providing real benefits to Liberians, even those living in remote locations.

Oyewole Afiye emphasized that the six-year project will help the government achieve better accountability, transparency, and efficiency in public institutions as part of its ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.
