As GoL, EU Break Ground for Electricity Facilities for Buchanan and Greenville Cities
Monrovia, Liberia – Liberia will advance significantly in its electrification development efforts today, May 3, 2024, with the groundbreaking of energy producing and distribution facilities by the Government of Liberia and the European Union.
Two distinct 33KV power distribution networks are to be built as part of the project, one in Buchanan and the other in Greenville. Residents in Buchanan and Greenville cities, respectively, will have much-needed access to dependable and reasonably priced electricity once the networks are finished.
The South East of Liberia is given priority in the EU’s “Rural Electrification Program,” which is providing funding for projects (No LR/FED/040-034).
In the city of Buchanan, single- and three-phase pre-paid meters will be linked to about twelve thousand and fifty-four (12,054) users. Furthermore, the community will benefit from the installation of 825 LED streetlights.
In addition, 4,344 homes in Greenville City will be connected as part of the project.
Along the forty-three (43) kilometer path of the aforementioned transmission line from the two (2) megawatts, a Mini Hydro Power Plant will also be built on the Sinoe River, and the Southeastern city will see the installation of approximately 200 led lighting.
The European Union Head of Delegation to Liberia, Nona Deprez, will represent the EU at the groundbreaking event, while the government of Liberia will be represented by the Honorable Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Hon. Boima S. Kamara.
With this assistance, the European Union is reaffirming its commitment to helping Liberia provide essential public services, such as energy.
