Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberian government has finally spoken out over the recent Supreme Court decision in the Koffa and Koon case, urging lawmakers to take the court’s decision seriously and use it as a basis for developing a peaceful, political solution to the problem.

The Boakai administration has reiterated its support for the independence of all three parts of government while urging legislators to take the High Court’s decision seriously.

Speaking during the MICAT regular press briefing in Monrovia on Thursday, April 24, 2025, Liberia’s Information Minister Jerolimek Matthew Piah revealed the government’s attempts to find common ground with stakeholders, including the Traditional Council.

The Minister did, however, urge lawmakers to put aside their political and personal agendas and get back to work on legislation, noting that group sacrifice is necessary for Liberia’s development and recovery.

He clarified that everyone must work toward the country’s recovery, stating that the constitutional pledge puts service over self. Minister Piah also conveyed his appreciation to lawmakers who have already reaffirmed their commitment to their duties.

The Information Minister narrated that the Boakai-Koon administration is concerned that the prolonged standoff in the House is distracting from the country’s development agenda and weakening public trust in democratic governance. “This internal dispute has the potential to undermine the progress we’re making in national development and governance,” Piah warned.
