Monrovia, Liberia – The French Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation to Liberia was recently received by ArcelorMittal Liberia Buchanan and Yekepa Operations. French Ambassador Isabelle Le Guellec and H.E. Nona Deprez, the leader of the EU delegation to Liberia, recently traveled to Yekepa and Buchanan to observe AML operations. The visit demonstrates AML’s commitment to sustainable practices, local development, and Liberia’s economic progress in addition to the solid international partnership they continue to cultivate.

The ambassadors were given the opportunity to visit AML locations in Yekepa and Buchanan, where they interacted with the staff and received a thorough briefing on the functioning of the company, particularly the Phase II Expansion Project and the significant investments and improvements AML has made to vital infrastructures like the mines, the port, and the railway.

Following their tour, the delegation and ambassadors offered their thoughts. European Union Ambassador Nona Deprez: “I applaud ArcelorMittal’s sustained dedication to Liberia. The Liberian people will benefit from new jobs and domestic income owing to its significant investments in the railway and concentrator.”

A tour of the ArcelorMittal Liberia Training Academy, which provides hundreds of young Liberians with top-notch vocational education and training to equip them for the future, was another aspect of their visit.

Isabelle Le Guellec, the ambassador from France: “The AML visit was crucial to my understanding of the company’s amazing and steadfast involvement in Liberia since 2005, despite traumatic crises like Ebola: the significant investment in the railway, which continues to this day, the provision of employment opportunities for thousands of Liberians, the extensive support provided to local communities, and the advancement of vocational training have all greatly impressed me. I commend and appreciate AML for everything.”

Dimitri de Pues, EU Delegation, Private Sector Development, Finance & Trade, Diplomatic Attaché: “We accepted the offer from AML to visit their investment in Liberia and commend them for their long-standing infrastructure, their support to the country during the COVID pandemic, and the creation of jobs and skill development for about 7000 employees.”

The goal of ArcelorMittal’s activities in Liberia is said to have a lasting, beneficial influence on the country’s citizens, government, and communities. AML promised to work together with the government to create a more promising and sustainable future for Liberia.
